Tony Evdoka report !

Tony Evdoka and Steve Brown TQ and Win 2wd
End of Seasons British F2/Juniors/Veterans Championships

The Venue was TORCH (Titchfield Off Road Club Hampshire) an all Astro-Turf track based near Southampton, Southern England. A very up and coming club with inspirations for holding prestigious events like BRCA Nationals. A variation of jumps and features are part of this track as well as demanding layouts requiring accurate but as always fast driving. A long straight demands torque and speed and I certainly wasn’t let down with my Orion equipped cars. Recently multiple British and European Champion Lee Martin did some private testing here, and said its one of the best tracks he has driven.

This weekend is where the old (and wise!) meet the young, to do battle for their individual status.
The drivers would do battle in 2wd on the Saturday and 4wd on the Sunday.

Saturday 2wd
Practice begun at 8.0am sharp as all BRCA events do, with only one 4 minute run for everyone.
The Kyosho cars looked on pace right from the beginning.

Round 1 was interesting as I had a failure (blaming the mechanic obviously) but the car was good.
Steve TQed the round in his class and the car looked real good too.

Round 2 saw some real quick times posted and I was very happy to TQ my individual class. Working with the Team we made some minor changes between Steve and myself and that got Steve TQ for round 2 too.

Kyosho driver Kev Lee was also present supporting all the racers with his Inside Line Racing shop.

Round 3&4
David Burton turned up (he wasn’t racing) to help Team K as was Kev Lee.
In qualifying it really was the same story as round 1 and 2 with the Kyosho cars generating an immense amount of grip and with the knowledge of all the Team present we made the right moves to get myself on pole for the Vets and Steve on pole for the F2s. Between us we TQed 7 out of the 8 respective rounds so real happy with that.

Finals
In the U16 we saw young Kyosho driver Daniel Town do very well in placing his car in the top 10 and having a good showing.
In the Veterans class it was a matter of having a clean start and just not making any errors. From pole with my Orion powered Kyosho that was super quick there was no need to push on. I managed to win all 3 legs to take the win and be called the 2wd British National Vets Champion.
Steve more or less did the very same as myself. Good starts in every leg and just made no errors to also take the F2 Championship. Steve actually looked super quick through the day and therefore took some of the fastest laps of the meeting and the overall fastest in a 5 minute run.

Saturday Evening
A very pleasant evening with the BRCA 1/10th Chairman Paul Worsley, the rest of the BRCA magical personnel of the BRCA and of course my Team mates. Really enjoyable.

Sunday 4wd
An early start again and discovered that the TORCH club would run the same track layout, backwards! The club has never done this before and this decision sort of surprised me a little. What a pleasant surprise though. The track was still flowing and coming up the straight was even more demanding on power than going down the hill. My FS2 fitted with Orion power just felt right.

Round 1
Although the car felt very good in practice the grip level of the track came up very quickly and where I was on to TQ the first round, I got tangled up with a slower car and unfortunately that dropped me to 3rd in the round. Not a bad opener though I thought.

Round 2
Well I went through the car and still thought it was just fine and basically drove with that extra bit of accuracy to secure TQ of round 2. Steve my Team mate was not having the most brilliant day but still had a 4th in round 1 and 5th in round 2 to already secure A Final status after 2 rounds. He was to do better as the day progressed. After 2 rounds I secured top 3 on the grid.

All cars were scrutinised every run to make they were legal by BRCA rules

Round 3
The weather was staying dry and the track was very consistent. Kev Lee looking at the cars spotted some changes that were needed. He actually got the tools out and changed my car and Steve did his own. I have to say the changes were very good and it just proves that sometimes we all have to listen to our Team mates. Steve got 3rd in round and was a little unfortunate not to TQ and I drove a controlled qualifier to take TQ in round 3.

Round 4
Round 4 was much the same with Steve having another good round and put himself 4th on the grid and I managed to TQ the last 3 rounds to but my FS2 on pole. I must admit I had thoughts at this time of doing the double but quickly resumed in taking one step at a time.

Finals
Steve and I were on slightly different tyres on the front axle. Steve was running a little more steering than me. I was playing for the safe route! Steve got a 2nd in the first leg and a 3rd in another to firmly finish in 3rd and on the podium. My car was super quick and all I had to do was just keep all four wheels on the track. In legs 1 and 2 I did that very thing to complete a very satisfying 4wd win for myself and Kyosho/Orion . The Double too!!

Conclusion
The BRCA run a very good meeting but with the assistance of the TORCH club they had a great venue with the TORCH personnel helping, this weekend was a very enjoyable one for many racers across the country. Massive thanks go out to all my sponsors, helpers, friends and family through a very difficult personal year. I would like to thank everyone individually but for now, all the personnel at FDL, Team Kyosho, Team Orion, Inside Line Racing, RudeBits, Nuclear-RC and all my Team. Thank you everyone. Ending the season with a big smile
